About the Community Midwifery Program

The Community Midwifery Program or CMP is a free, publicly funded homebirth program delivered by WA Health in partnership with Community Midwifery WA.  The CMP is available for women experiencing a low risk pregnancies who live within 50km north, 50 km south and 40 km east  of the Perth CBD, and have a Medicare card. The CMP offers continuity of care for women from 16 weeks through labour and birth and up to 4 weeks post birth.  Antenatal care is provided by CMP midwives in the home as well as at Community Clinics located in Joondalup, North Fremantle and Kalamunda.  See the contacts page for addresses.

Over 1,600 women have birthed their babies with the care and support of CMP midwives.  Currently around 250 babies are born on the CMP each year.  For more information on the CMP, see our FAQs. See Birth Choices for more information about the homebirth model of care, and check out the Birth Stories for inspiration.
